Play Gospel By Ear Program

This is the program. An 8–12 week live group experience designed to take a student from beginner or near-beginner to playing real gospel music — confidently, by ear, in all 12 keys.

  • Week 1–2: Foundations — how the ear works, major and minor chords, basic hand positioning

  • Week 3–4: Gospel progressions — the most common patterns used in church music

  • Week 5–6: Chord recognition by sound — hearing a chord and playing it without sheet music

  • Week 7–8: Progressions in all 12 keys — the skill that separates confident players from the rest

Students ages 8–18 who are beginners or have some basic experience and want to learn gospel piano by ear in a structured, supported environment.

Do students need a piano at home?

A keyboard with at least 61 keys is recommended. Matthew can advise on affordable options before the first lesson.

What ages do you teach?

All programs are designed for students ages 8–18, from complete beginners to those with some experience looking to add gospel to their playing.

Are classes online or in-person?

Both. The Play Gospel By Ear Program runs live on Zoom. Single lessons and Private Mentorship are available online or in-person depending on location.

How do I get started?
